Dr David Botros is a multiskilled rural practitioner who delivers safe, personalised, and effective anaesthesia care for his patients. He places a strong emphasis on patient advocacy, ensuring individuals are included in decision-making about their anaesthetic options. Dr Botros is passionate about alleviating patient anxiety by listening to their concerns and addressing them, aiming to maximise comfort and safety throughout the perioperative journey.

With a special interest in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, Dr Botros incorporates this advanced technique as part of a multimodal approach to managing intra- and post-operative pain. He is also deeply committed to rural and remote practice and retrieval medicine, areas where he has gained extensive experience.

Dr Botros began his career in Brisbane after completing a Bachelor of Medical Science with Distinction at Queensland University of Technology in 2002 and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Queensland in 2007.

His postgraduate training includes recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (2015), a Certificate of Emergency Medicine (2015), endorsement as a Rural Generalist Anaesthetist by the Joint Consultative Committee of Anaesthesia (2017), and a Diploma of Rural Generalist Anaesthesia in 2023.

His professional journey has taken him across Australia, from working at Princess Alexandra Hospital to pursuing postgraduate training in Bundaberg, where he gained valuable experience in anaesthesia, general practice, emergency medicine, and intensive care.

He trained in retrieval medicine with LifeFlight in Mackay, followed by 18 months with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Charleville, delivering critical care and primary health services to remote communities in south-western Queensland.

Dr Botros has spent the past eight years providing both public and private anaesthesia care at Gladstone General Hospital, as well as attending to patients in the hospital’s High Dependency Unit. Furthermore, during this time, he has gained extensive experience in delivering medical care to First Nations people in remote communities across the Pilbara, Kimberley, and western Queensland, reflecting his deep interest in and commitment to rural and Indigenous health.

A proud Bundy Boy, Dr Botros attended Bundaberg State High School and has a deep connection to the local community. As a senior lecturer at the UQ Rural Clinical School, he has been involved in mentoring medical students and is looking forward to re-establishing this role.

Outside of medicine, Dr Botros is an adventurer at heart. He has summitted several 4000-metre peaks in the Alps, including the iconic Matterhorn. He also enjoys spending time on his family’s macadamia orchard and speaks four languages: English, Czech, German, and Spanish.
